There are a number of different factors that can cause wrinkles, including genetics, lifestyle choices, excessive sun exposure, as well as repeated facial movements such as squinting, frowning and smiling. These factors can lead to the loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin, causing the skin to sag and eventually develop wrinkles.
Fortunately, there are a variety of cosmetic procedures available that can address multiple signs of aging. If you are looking to diminish the look of your wrinkles and restore your skin’s youthful appearance, you may want to consider the following cosmetic treatments.
One of the most common treatments to minimize wrinkles that you’ve probably already heard of are injections of botulinum toxin – AKA Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. These three injectable treatments can provide a temporary fix to facial wrinkles and fine lines.
As previously mentioned, a common cause of wrinkles is repetitive muscle movements such as smiling or furrowing one’s brow. Known as a wrinkle relaxer, Botox works by reducing movement of these specific muscle groups, thus softening the look of wrinkles and fine lines.
These treatments typically start working within three to five days, with full results noticeable after two weeks. In order to maintain your refreshed appearance it is recommend that you repeat the treatment every four months.
Clinical peels minimize wrinkles by utilizing an acid solution to eliminate old, dead cells from the outer layers of your skin. Oftentimes, the solution is a mixture of glycolic acid, lactic acid, phenol, salicylic acid or trichloroacetic acid (TCA).
The clinical peel procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. While the peel solution is on the skin, you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation which is normal. Over the following days after the treatment, your skin’s outer layers will begin to slough, revealing newer, brighter and smoother skin in its place.
Mild clinical peel treatments will have more subtle results, requiring more than one treatment every few weeks until you see the results you desire. Stronger clinical peels will create more sloughing, but will yield more dramatic results, quicker.
As we get older, it is normal for the fat compartments in our faces to deflate and descend as our skin does not have as much elasticity as it once did. However, it may not descend in a balanced or predictable way. It starts in the tissue at the temples and in front of the ears, resulting in sagging, wrinkling skin around the mouth and jawline.
Dermal fillers restore this lost volume and can be temporary or longer-lasting. These injectable gels are used in a subtle way to create noticeable, but not overwhelming, improvements in facial volume and proportion, minimizing wrinkles and folds to reflect your best features. Dermal fillers are often used in the lips, cheeks, jawline and around the mouth. They can also be used in the nose and hands.
Microneedling is a safe, non-invasive treatment that has become one of the most popular and effective treatments for overall skin revitalization. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), Microneedling uses controlled micro-injuries to the skin to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin.
When the collagen in your skin is reactivated, it can be an effective treatment to minimize wrinkles and fine lines, as well as scars, stretch marks and even enlarged pores.
Unfortunately, years of extended exposure to the sun, high amounts of stress, environmental factors, lifestyle habits and even acne will take a toll on our skin. Luckily, there are laser treatments that offer multiple benefits for skin rejuvenation, including minimizing wrinkles or fine lines.
Laser skin resurfacing treatments renew damaged skin through acute light beam technology. You have two options to reduce the look of wrinkles using lasers. Ablative lasers remove the outermost layer of skin, requiring time to heal afterwards, whereas non-ablative lasers use a less invasive technique resulting in faster recovery time.
