Laser Vein Removal

Broken facial capillaries, also known as spider veins, are a common result of sun damage and natural aging. They may also accompany rosacea, a condition that causes persistent redness or flushing in the skin. Broken capillaries typically occur on the cheeks, chin and nose, but may also be found on other areas of the body. They are often difficult to camouflage and impossible to treat without medical intervention.

APT Medical Aesthetics is pleased to offer laser vein removal for treatment of vascular lesions including broken facial capillaries and cherry hemangiomas. It is an effective treatment for removing stubborn vessels and restoring even skin tone.

How does the treatment work?

Vascular lesions are treated using BBL™ BroadBand Light technology. The light energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin (blood pigment) in the vessel, causing it to coagulate. As individual vessels are treated, they may disappear, darken, lighten, or appear unchanged, but eventually fade away over time.

What can I expect during the treatment?

Each treatment takes only a few minutes. Your skin will be thoroughly cleaned, and the vessels will be assessed by your technician. With each pulse of light, you may feel a slight snap against the skin. Immediately after the treatment, redness and mild skin swelling are expected, and you will feel a warm or tingling sensation. These effects are temporary, and cool compresses are helpful. In rare occasions, a small bruise may develop where the vessel was treated.

Is there downtime after laser vein removal?

Laser vein removal is considered a no-downtime treatment. You may apply makeup and resume normal activities after the treatment, however we recommend avoiding hot tubs, saunas, or hot yoga for the remainder of the day.

How many treatments will I need?

You may need one or more treatments, depending on how the vessels respond to the treatment. Some vessels disappear immediately, while others may need an additional treatment.

How well does it work?

Once vessels have faded away they will not return, although it is possible that new vessels may form over time, particularly if you are prone to them. Long-term results are possible as long as one can be diligent in protecting the skin and minimizing inflammation. This includes daily use of a chemical-free sunscreen of at least SPF 30, and controlling any triggers that contribute to skin redness.
