Belotero® Lips

Celebrate unfading youth and beauty with sexy and voluptuous lips courtesy of Belotero® Lips. Here’s everything you need to know about one of the most requested lip fillers in Oakville.

What It Is

Belotero® Lips is a revolutionary aesthetic treatment featuring injectable cosmetic fillers composed of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a naturally occurring sugar-derivative compound found in the body. Because of its unique ability to hold up its weight up to a thousand times in water, HA-based dermal fillers work exceptionally well in hydrating the skin and enhancing the lips.

What sets it apart from other lip fillers in Oakville? It boasts of Belotero® Liplush, a remarkable technique that incorporates dual-action products—Belotero® Lip Shape and Belotero® Lips Contour— to give you the perfectly shaped lips you’ve always wanted.

Just as lipstick and lipliner complement each other, Belotero® Lip Shape augments the upper and lower lip by subtly adding volume. At the same time, Belotero® Lips Contour accurately targets and adds definition to its outline and curves.

Treatment Areas

The Belotero® brand features an extensive collection of cosmetic filler products. That being said, the possibilities are endless when it comes to what areas to target and where to use Belotero®.

In particular, Belotero® Lips is focused explicitly on achieving naturally bigger and beautiful lips. It delivers astounding and long-lasting results.

How to Prepare

If you are having your lip fillers in Oakville done here at APT Medical, our professional cosmetic injector will take care of you every step of the way. During the consultation, you will be assessed on whether you are a strong candidate for Belotero® Lips. We will also customize a preparation guide for you complete with a list of dos and don’ts before your lip injection treatment.

It may vary depending on the individual but typically includes the following.

DO Have a Clear and Realistic Perspective of the Results You Want

While some may be overwhelmed with the image of hyper-realistic lips, some would give anything to have the scene-stealing pout of celebrities—case in point: Kylie Jenner’s famous lips.

Your best bet would be to have a gradually paced treatment. Your injector may recommend starting with a minimal dose. Take your new lips out for a spin. If you find that you would like more, you can always come back for more lip fillers in Oakville. Nevertheless, do not hesitate to be completely honest about your personal beauty goals during consultations, so our nurse injector can develop an appropriate plan for you.

DON’T Take Prescription or Over-the-Counter Drugs and Supplements

You may be advised to temporarily discontinue taking medicines and supplements, as they may potentially behave as a blood thinner and increase your risk of bruising after your lip filler treatment. For drugs, this may include aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Supplements to avoid, on the other hand, are fish oil, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Ginkgo Biloba, primrose oil, garlic, and ginseng.

DON’T Drink Alcoholic Beverages

Refrain from consuming any form of alcohol at least 24 hours before your set injection appointment. Alcohol, especially red wine, also thins the blood and therefore predisposes you to bleed and bruise as a side effect.

DO Tell Your Injector If You Have/Had Facial Cold Sores

Don’t hold back when disclosing relevant medical history during your pre-treatment consultation. If you have a history of cold sores, tell your attending nurse injector right away. The needle injection may trigger a new episode of cold sores, so if you have a current cold sore, your treatment will need to be rebooked. If you have a history of cold sores, we can offer a prophylactic treatment of antivirals to help prevent an outbreak.

How It Works

At APT, we ensure that our lip fillers in Oakville treatments are a comfortable and satisfying experience for our clients.

On the day of your Belotero® Lips appointment, please arrive at the clinic with clean and make-up free skin. However, if you came straight from work and had no time to wash your face, do not worry. Your cosmetic injector is going to cleanse and prep the injection site with a clinical antiseptic solution as part of our standard operating procedure. He/She may also use a marker to identify the treatment site.

A topical numbing cream will be applied to your lips and the surrounding area to make the lip filler treatment more comfortable for you. Belotero® products contain lidocaine (a local numbing medication), which further ensures your comfort.

Once the cream has taken effect, the Belotero® Lips cosmetic filler will be injected into your upper and lower lip separately using a fine-gauge needle or cannula. The entire procedure can take about 30 minutes.

Results You Can Expect

As most of our lip fillers in Oakville, the results of Belotero® Lips are noticeable immediately. How many treatments needed to attain your perfect results is very individual based on your consultation. Sometimes, for subtle augmentations, only one treatment session is needed. IF you are looking for dramatically luscious lips, sometimes they are attained over a series of treatments. After the initial post-injection swelling subsides, you’ll see that your lips have become fuller, plumper, and curvier. If you had ordinary-looking thin lips before, you would be pleased with how the volume and definition can dramatically enhance your looks.

Aftercare and Recovery

Here are some aftercare tips to help you make an effortless recovery and maximize the final results of your Belotero® Lips treatment.

  • Apply an ice pack to the treatment site to ease discomfort. Be careful and gentle when doing so to prevent bruising or bleeding.
  • Arnica with bromelain supplements may be prescribed to help prevent bruising.
  • Acetaminophen may also be advised if there’s pain post procedure but is typically not required.
  • Do not touch, poke, scratch, or massage the injection site for the first 24 hours post-treatment to ensure your perfect results.
  • Refrain from exposing the injection site to intense heat such as tanning beds and saunas for the first 24 hours after your Belotero® Lips treatment.
  • Can I eat after getting lip fillers, you ask? Yes. Consume room temperature—not hot—meals that are easy to chew and swallow to prevent disturbing your lip fillers. In this case, cold foods, like yogurt and ice cream, may have a soothing effect.
  • Avoid kissing for the first 24 hours after getting lip fillers or until the redness and swelling dissipates.
  • The day of treatment you will want to avoid any strenuous physical activity, including full-body workouts, major household chores, or anything that involves sweating and heavy lifting.
  • Do not take blood-thinning medications and supplements 48 hours after treatment or as advised by your injector.

Do not hesitate to contact your doctor or cosmetic injection specialist immediately if you have any questions or you experience fever, chills, unbearable pain, or notice anything unusual in the area that was treated. These are all critical indicators that your injector would want to know about and possibly advise further treatment.

Potential Complications

Belotero® Lips is generally safe. But as with all medical procedures, the risk of running into complications is still a possibility.

For starters, we do not recommend it for pregnant and breastfeeding women as now studies have been done on these groups. As mentioned previously, patients who have had facial cold sores may want to postpone getting lip fillers in Oakville to avoid causing a more severe flare-up.

Post-treatment side effects of Belotero® Lips injection are temporary and usually resolve on their own, which could be within a week when the lips have completely healed. Common lip filler side effects include redness, swelling, and tenderness. In rare cases, there could be dryness, numbing, discoloration, and lumps.

If some of your post-treatment lip filler side effects are making you uncomfortable or seem abnormal to you, go ahead and reach out to your professional cosmetic injector immediately.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

First our Nurse Injector will ask you questions about your medical history, current medications, and any other relevant medical information. You will also have the opportunity to discuss what your specific concerns are regarding your lips and a treatment plan will be presented to you. During the treatment session, the product is injected into the lip using a very fine needle. The treatment is quickly, typically taking about 30 minutes.

Some people may experience mild discomfort during treatment. All Belotero® fillers are available with lidocaine in order to maximize your comfort.

The advantage of Belotero® Lips is that the products integrate so readily into your own tissue that you are unlikely to feel the substance when you touch your lips.

There is very little to no downtime involved in the Belotero® Lips procedure. In fact most patients return to their normal, daily activies right after their visit.

The advantage of Belotero® Lips is that the results are long-lasting between 6 to 9 months, but not permanent. Duration depends on many factors including lifestyle and age. After intial treatment, follow-up sessions are recommended. During your follow-up visit, your Nurse Injector may decide to inject more product in order to improve the appearance of the initial treatment.

Any injectable treatment may be accompanied by some minor redness, swelling or bruising. These effects are temporary and should not affect your normal activities, however it is good idea to schedule your treatment at least two weeks before any major social engagement. Most patients are able to resume regular activities immediately after the treatment.
