Morpheus8® combines the use of microneedling and radiofrequency to remodel the skin from a deeper level.

A capable professional is able to properly target the skin’s building blocks with micro injuries and RF waves, triggering the body’s natural healing, remodelling, and anti-aging processes. Though Morpheus8® is able to treat the skin beyond the superficial level, the procedure is only minimally invasive (i.e. nonsurgical) – however, the results of this treatment are truly dramatic.

If you’re considering getting Morpheus8®, Oakville is the place to be. Read on to learn more about the Morpheus8® treatments we offer here at APT Medical Aesthetics, a premier medical spa in the heart of Oakville.

Treatment Areas

When it comes to subdermal renewal and/or sculpting, each person’s needs are unique. This is why a sophisticated procedure like Morpheus8® is designed to be versatile. With a few modifications and tweaks of the Morpheus8® procedure, a trained professional will be able to safely treat various parts of the body and bring about the best results depending on the patient’s case.

The Morpheus8® procedure can treat different areas – like the face, jawline, neck, abdomen, buttocks, arms, and so on – and address the following concerns:

  • Wrinkles
  • Sagging or loose skin
  • Acne scarring or rough skin
  • Discoloration
  • Stretchmarks

How to Prepare

Generally, the Morpheus8® procedure is hassle-free as can be. You will be required to come in for your appointment 1 hour prior to your treatment time in order to receive a topical numbing cream. This will make your treatment much more comfortable. It is best to refrain from your retinol based skin care creams for one week prior to treatment. However, if you want the best results, you can take the extra step of making sure you are healthy and well-hydrated before the procedure (as well as after the procedure.) Because essentially, the Morpheus8® procedure makes use of natural skin healing processes to work. Therefore, the best results can be expected if you ensure proper nutrition and good circulation in your body. Unhealthy habits like drinking and smoking will get in the way of getting good results.

There are conditions, however, that would need extra precaution. We suggest that a patient undergoes consultation before preparing to get the Morpheus8® procedure – if they have the following:

  • Rosacea
  • Active acne and other inflammatory conditions
  • Open wounds or lesions (e.g. from herpes simplex)
  • Metal allergies
  • Skin that is still healing from dermabrasion, deep peels, or surgical procedures from the last 3 months
  • Sunburned skin or excessing tanning from the last 2 weeks

How it Works

The Morpheus8® device works on the subdermal level of the skin. It can achieve deep fractional remodelling by synergizing the benefits of two known technologies in the realm of skincare: microneedling and radiofrequency. In the past, these two have been used separately in treatments to deliver their own set of benefits.

Microneedling works by creating slight, controlled injuries to the skin – and the skin responds to this by making new collagen-rich tissue. In the hands of a capable professional, the process is highly controlled and deliberate. Therefore, the resulting new skin tissue is more even in texture and tone.

Meanwhile, radiofrequency treatments are very similar to ultrasound therapy in the sense that they both make use of energy  to stimulate collagen and elastin production by the body. For radiofrequency, these are known as RF waves. RF waves are able to go deep into the dermal tissue of the skin and administer heat to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in tighter, renewed skin. Radiofrequency can also be used to target and heat specific adipose tissue (fat cells) to induce fat remodelling.

The Morpheus8® procedure uses microneedles, not just to make controlled micro injuries, but also to administer RF waves into the deeper layers of the skin. Through this process, the body’s natural healing response is triggered, resulting in the production of collagen and elastin. This remodels the skin and gives it a firm and even appearance. Earlier, we mentioned that RF waves can also selectively target adipose tissue or fat cells and remodel them. This function can also be utilized in Morpheus8® procedures for certain areas where the subcutaneous fat of the skin causes sagging  (e.g. jowls, back of the arms, bra bulges.) What’s important to note here though, is that the RF wave-inducedremodelling is controlled so there’s no need to worry about accidental volume loss on the face.

Results You Can Expect

When done by a capable professional, Morpheus8® can do the following:

  • Reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • Tighten loose skin
  • Smoothen out a rough skin texture
  • Improve the appearance of acne scarring
  • Contour and remodel fat on the face and body in a non-surgical way

Visible results can be seen within a few days.  But as with all procedures, there is a waiting time before you can see the full results. For the Morpheus8® procedure, the three-week mark will show you far more noticeable results but improvements can continue up to three months after the treatment.

In most cases, 2 – 3 treatments will be required to see the desired results. If multiple treatments are recommended, they are spaced around 4 – 5 weeks apart.

Aftercare and Recovery

Because Morpheus8® is only minimally invasive, there is no real downtime with this procedure. However, depending on the extent of your treatment, you may be advised to wait for some hours before washing the treated area/s with water.

The redness, itchiness, and minor swelling typically only last at most  a few days after the treatment. This makes the Morpheus8® an easy, manageable procedure – because you can resume activities almost immediately after treatment.

Targeted skin-care can definitely boost your results further – especially during the first 72 hours post-treatment when channels are still healing on the skin surface. These channels can allow for medical-grade skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin. Products containing growth factors, peptides, vitamin C, retinol, and hyaluronic acid can be helpful and might be recommended by your skincare professional. However, if you’re buying products by yourself, make sure to consult with your skincare professional before using any of such products post-treatment.

Additionally, you will need to avoid direct sunlight for a few weeks after your Morpheus8® procedure. If you are heading out, make sure to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen that is at least SPF-30. This will help to avoid post-procedure hyperpigmentation. The best and most gentle option for healing skin is a sunscreen containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. To get the best brand and SPF level for your specific case, consult with your skincare professional.

Potential Complications

The Morpheus8® procedure has a few potential complications including:

  • Temporary swelling, and bruising
  • Allergic reaction to the anesthetic agent
  • Infection (if not cared for properly)
  • Sunburn and hyperpigmentation(when not protected from the sun post-treatment)
