What is Plasma IQ Pen?

The Plasma IQ Pen is a Health Canada and FDA-cleared device that delivers advanced, non-surgical skin rejuvenation using plasma energy. This cutting-edge technology is designed to treat superficial skin lesions, improve skin laxity, fine lines and deep wrinkles by stimulating collagen production through a controlled thermal injury to the skin.

How Does the Treatment Work?

Plasma IQ works by ionizing the gas particles in the air to create a controlled electric arc. This arc causes a process called fulguration, targeting the superficial layer of the skin without damaging surrounding tissue. The controlled micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing response, leading to collagen remodeling and gradual skin contraction. As tiny carbon crusts form and naturally shed over 5–7 days, firmer, tighter, and more rejuvenated skin is revealed—all without the need for surgery.

What Can I Expect During the Treatment?

Prior to your session, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for 60 minutes for comfort. The treatment area is then thoroughly cleansed, and the device is used in a precise zig-zag or spot-specific pattern. You may feel a mild tingling with accompanied warmth, but discomfort is minimal. The treatment itself typically takes around 30 minutes, depending on the area treated.

Is There Downtime Involved?

Yes. You will experience redness, swelling, and crusting for 5–7 days. Tiny carbon crusts form where plasma energy was applied—these are part of the natural healing process. It’s essential to follow aftercare protocols and avoid sun exposure and exercise for at least 48 hours post-treatment.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Many patients see some visible results after a single treatment. However, depending on the area treated and desired outcomes, 3 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart may be recommended.

How to Prepare for the Treatment

Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2–4 weeks prior
Discontinue any retinol or active ingredients at least 7 days before
Remove all makeup on the day of the appointment
Ensure you are not actively ill or experiencing a herpes or shingles outbreak
Patients with darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick V–VI) are not candidates due to risk of pigmentation
For those with a history of cold sores and want treatment around the mouth, take prescribed antiviral medications to prevent the treatment from triggering a reoccurrence

Aftercare and Recovery

• Post-Procedure Treatment Kit will be provided to the patient post-treatment (includes Oil Cleanser, Lipid Serum and cream)
• Do not touch, pick, or exfoliate treated areas
• Avoid exercise, hot showers, or saunas for 48 hours
• Use SPF 50 daily starting 2 days post-treatment
• Do not wear makeup on treated areas until all scabs have fully healed
• Expect full healing within 5-7 days

Potential Complications

• Redness, swelling, or tenderness
• Hyperpigmentation and/or hypopigmentation (especially if aftercare is not followed)
• Scarring (if scabs are picked and aftercare is not followed )
• Itchiness or mild discomfort
• Infection (rare, but possible if aftercare is not followed)
