In our youth we are blessed with soft, smooth skin that is blemish-free and has a radiant glow. But then...life happens! Years of unprotected sun exposure, along with stress, exposure to environmental factors, acne, and lifestyle habits eventually take a toll on our skin. Laser skin resurfacing offers multiple benefits for skin that has been affected by one or more of the following:
- Fine lines or wrinkles
- Sun damage/uneven pigmentation
- Acne or chicken pox scars
- Enlarged pores
- Uneven skin texture
Laser skin resurfacing treats damaged skin using an intense light beam. There are two types of laser skin resurfacing:
Ablative – an invasive laser that removes the top layer of the skin, and requires healing time.
Non-ablative – also known as fractional skin resurfacing. A less invasive laser that treats deeper areas of the skin to stimulate collagen production. Fractional lasers target very small areas, leaving the surrounding skin intact, resulting in faster recovery time.
Laser skin resurfacing is a suitable option for those seeking smoother skin and improved radiance. APT Medical Aesthetics is pleased to offer several options for laser skin resurfacing. Clear + Brilliant® is a gentler treatment with minimal recovery time. Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser is a more intense option that delivers results in a little as one treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have enlarged pores. Am I a candidate for laser skin resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is often recommended for those patients seeking improvement in skin texture (large pores, scarring, lines and wrinkles). To determine if you are a suitable candidate please schedule a complimentary consultation with our team of experts.
Is laser skin resurfacing painful?
Before any laser resurfacing treatment, a topical numbing agent is applied to the skin in order to minimized discomfort during the procedure. Most patients describe the treatments as “warm and prickly”.
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on the treatment chosen, as well as your desired outcome. Most patients can achieve a dramatic outcome with 1-3 Halo™ treatments versus 4-6 Clear + Brilliant® treatments.
Is there downtime after laser skin resurfacing?
After most resurfacing treatments there is a period where the skin may appear swollen, blotchy, dry or flaky. These effects are temporary and can be covered with makeup. This should not affect your normal activities, although you may want to schedule your treatments at least a week before any major social engagements.
