Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Dr. Obagi?

Dr. Zein Obagi is a world-renowned innovator, researcher, author, educator, and practicing board-certified dermatologist. He has been a leading authority on skin health and rejuvenation for over 35 years and is responsible for developing the most widely used skin health treatments, protocols, an products in the world. He pioneered the concept of creating and maintaining healthy skin, as opposed to simply treating diseased and damaged skin.

I’ve used Obagi products in the past, including the Obagi Nu-Derm® System. Are these the same thing?

No. Dr. Obagi sold the original Obagi product line in 2006. He founded ZO® Skin Health in 2007 which offers daily and preventative skincare products. In 2012, he launched ZO® Medical, which can be considered a new and updated alternative to the original Nu-Derm system. These products are a fantastic treatment option for aged or sun-damaged skin, or for those with pigmentation conditions such as melasma.

I’ve tried ZO® products before, and my skin got irritated. Why did this happen?

Because ZO® products are medical grade, they contain higher concentrations of active ingredients than their drugstore and department store counterparts. Skin that is not properly activated to these products may react by becoming red, flaky, or itchy. A slow and steady approach will most certainly guarantee success with any medical grade product.
